Details of the Program

Experience the best of Shark Bay with a two-part, once in a lifetime encounter. You’ll come face to face with some of the ocean’s top predators when you enter the acrylic cage in Shark Bay’s Shark Lagoon, including our magnificent whaler sharks, Dusky and Bull.

You will then snorkel through the Reef Lagoon interacting with a selection of beautiful tropical fish, majestic rays and our harmless Black Tip and White Tip reef sharks.

Program duration is approximately 2 hours with approximately 20 minutes in the cage and 20 minutes in the reef pool. All participants of this experience must hold a valid pass to enter the park.

The water is heated in winter to a very comfortable 22-24 degrees, and features a number of ‘safe havens’ where you can stand and rest while snorkelling. You’ll be accompanied by an experienced Dive Leader for the duration of your snorkel.

  • Participants must be 14 years of age or over
  • Participants must be able to speak and/or understand English, or have a translator participate in the program with them. There are no complimentary programs for translators. Persons acting as a translator must advise staff at the start of the program. Translators must satisfy all criteria
  • Participants must be competent swimmers/able to swim unaided
  • Guests can participate via snorkel or SCUBA. Participants using SCUBA must hold a current and valid dive qualification and must present this to Guest Services during check in and to Dive staff when collected for the tour. Dive staff will make the final decision regarding the use of SCUBA
  • Participants must have controlled motor movement
  • Participants must be able to follow directional hand signals of staff outlined in the briefing
  • Participants must be able to quickly exit the acrylic cage unassisted
  • Participants must not have any open cuts or infections
  • Participants must read and acknowledge all health risks (some medical conditions will prohibit participation)
  • If pregnant, participants must not be further than 3 months (snorkel only). Based on medical advice, participants must not be pregnant if using SCUBA diving equipment
  • If using SCUBA diving equipment, participants must be a qualified diver and be able to produce a recognized diving certificate or card and must complete a Diving Medical Declaration (some medical conditions will prohibit participation).
  • Participants using SCUBA diving equipment are not to travel in an aircraft or proceed above 300 metres for 12 hours or undertake international flights for 24 hours from the completion of the dive
  • Guests with disabilities are asked to call Customer Connect on 133 386 to determine suitability to participate in the Animal Adventures programs. Please note a limited number of special needs programs are available for people with disabilities that otherwise prohibit them from participating

All participants, or a legal guardian (18 years or over), will be required to sign a liability release form and criteria check-list before beginning the program

Snorkelling can be a strenuous physical activity. If you suffer from an existing medical condition, PLEASE NOTE:

  • Some medical conditions may be made worse by physical exertion eg. heart disease, asthma, lung complaints
  • Some medical conditions can result in the loss of consciousness if you exert yourself eg. epilepsy, diabetes
  • Asthma that can be brought on by cold water or salt water mist

PLEASE inform the Snorkelling Supervisor or Snorkelling Guide if you have an existing medical condition and any concerns you have.

Persons with a medical condition intending to snorkel should:

  • Only snorkel in an area that allows the Snorkelling Supervisor or Snorkelling Guide to offer close supervision
  • Wear a flotation device that will support the wearer in a relaxed state
