You’ll be amazed by the magical display of tropical fish, rays and other bottom-dwellers in the stunning Tropical Reef Lagoon - it's like a piece of the Great Barrier Reef on the Gold Coast. You’ll come face to face with the impressive sharks that will glide past the huge windows offering a glimpse into the world of one of the ocean’s top predators in the massive Shark Lagoon. This two-level exhibit offers incredible viewing both topside and underwater, as well as a snorkel lagoon and a shark pool full of awe-inspiring beauty.

Quick Facts about Sharks

•Conservation Status: Over 20% species are Threatened or Near Threatened

•Number of Species: Approximately 500 known species worldwide

•Scientific Name: Selachimorpha, Animal Group: Fish, Diet: Carnivorous

•Habitat: Sharks are found from warm tropical to cold polar environments. They can be found in water less than one metre deep to depths below 1000 metres.

•Interesting Fact: Sharks never run out of teeth, because they keep growing new rows of backup teeth

•Types of Fish at Sea World: Over 250 species including Humphead Maori wrasse, Clown triggerfish and Blue tang

•Conservation Status of Fish at Sea World: Humphead Maori wrasse are Endangered. Clown triggerfish - their status is not yet classified

•Habitat: Sub-tropical to tropical reef and coastal waters

•Interesting Fact: Shark Bay's Reef Lagoon is modelled on the Great Barrier Reef, which is home to over 1500 fish species

•Types of Turtles at Sea World: Green/Loggerhead hybrid turtle and Loggerhead turtle

Water-Based Animal Adventure

Experience the best of Shark Bay with a two-part, once in a lifetime encounter. You’ll come face to face with some of the ocean’s top predators when you enter the acrylic cage in Shark Bay’s Shark Lagoon. You will then snorkel through the Reef Lagoon interacting with a selection of beautiful tropical fish, majestic rays and our harmless Black Tip and White Tip reef sharks.
