Seal & Sea Lion

Seals and sea lions are aquatic, carnivorous mammals with a streamlined body specialised for swimming.

Found only in Australia, the Australian Sea Lion is one of the most endangered pinnipeds in the world, with an estimated 10,000-12,000 between The Page Islands in South Australia and Houtman Abrolhos off the Western Australia coast.

Fur seals and sea lions belong to the family Otariid meaning little ear and earless or true seal belong to the family Phocidae.

One of the ten pinniped (seals and sea lion) species found in Australian waters, the Australian sea lion (Neophoca cinerea), is endemic to Australia and is listed as endangered (IUCN Red List 2013).
