Episode 10

Episode 10 takes you on-board head on-board with the Sea World Foundation team on the delicate rescue operation of a whale calf entangled in Shark Control Netting. The team work with Macquarie Univerity to research shark deterrents which could one day assist governments when looking at options for shark control programs, and hopefully lessen the impact on our marine life. Plus, we see the tragic effects last year’s Northern NSW floods has on the community and wildlife and head Paradise Country to conduct health checks on the newest arrivals at the park.

Episode 9 takes you on-board head on-board with the Sea World Foundation team as they join the University of Queensland team to conduct vital research into the Dugong population of Moreton Bay. Plus, travel to Canada to check in on Henry the Polar Bear and dive below the surface to check out the Gold Coast’s newest attraction, Wonder Reef.

Episode 8 takes you on-board with the Sea World Foundation team as they conduct a tricky rescue operation on a humpback whale entangled in fishing equipment. Plus, learn how the dolphins at Sea World, and their snot, are assisting Nord University’s conservation efforts of whales in Norway and meet Peg, a penguin in need of an orthidic.

Episode 7 takes you to Kangaroo Island with Dr Claire as she joins South Australian Parks and Wildlife Department to conduct research on one of the most vulnerable species, the Australian Sea Lion. Plus, head on-board with the team on a rescue operation of a Bull Shark in Biggera Waters and go below the surface for an important ocean clean up.

Episode 6 takes you on-board head on-board with the Sea World Foundation team as they put their training into real life with the rescue operation of a humpback whale. With seasnake rescues increasing, the Sea World team are also put through their paces as they complete a snake handling course and meet one of the newest chicks at Penguin Encounter.

Episode 5 explores the incredible highs and lows the sea World team experiences and get an insight into their expertise, passion and dedication when rescuing and caring for marine animals. Meet Floyd, an adorable False Killer Whale calf rescued after stranding in Northern NSW, and the team travel to northern Queensland to help a fur seal pup who was found well outside his normal geographic range.

Episode 4 takes you on-board with the Sea World Foundation team as they join the Griffith University researcher Dr. Olaf Meynecke to tag humpback whales in an effort to learn more about the majestic mammals who traverse our coastline. Plus, meet two adorable rescued green turtle hatchlings as they prepare for their return to journey to adulthood and Dr Claire conducts a tricky rescue of an entangled pelican.

Meet the Team

Wayne Phillips – Head of Marine Sciences
Wayne Phillips – Head of Marine Sciences

Wayne has over 30 years of experience working with Marine Animals in facilities all over the world. Wayne is responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of rescue efforts from logistics, liaising with relevant agencies and implementing rescue and research operations.

Dr. Claire Madden – Head Veterinarian
Dr. Claire Madden – Head Veterinarian

As the head veterinarian, Claire is responsible for maintaining the health of resident animals at Sea World as well as the treatment and care of rescued marine wildlife. Claire and her team provide rescued animals with expert veterinary care and manages their medical and rehabilitation treatments.

Andy Mulville – Head Skipper
Andy Mulville – Head Skipper

With more than 20 years’ experience, Head Skipper Andy is a veteran of the Sea World team and is highly skilled in navigating the vessels in high-pressure rescue operations such as whale entanglements. Andy has a background as a marine mammal specialist which aids his extensive in-water craftsmanship.

Siobhan Houlihan – Marine Animal Specialist
Siobhan Houlihan – Marine Animal Specialist

Siobhan has extensive experience caring for sharks, marine turtles and sea snakes. Siobhan and her team manage the operation of rescuing, rehabilitating and returning sea turtles and sea snakes who come into care for a range of reasons as well as conducting vital research into a multitude of shark species.

Ben Markham – Marine Mammal Specialist
Ben Markham – Marine Mammal Specialist

Ben is an experienced member of the Sea World rescue team and assists in coordinating and enacting marine mammal stranding and entanglement operations. As a senior member of the team, Ben is also trained and certified as a skipper of Sea World’s rescue vessels.

Clint Karger – Aquarist and Diver
Clint Karger – Aquarist and Diver

Clint is a key member of the Sea World team, specialising in sharks, rays, fish and turtle species. Clint is a qualified diver and participates in many training, research and rescue operations as well as leading the leopard shark re-breading program at Shark Bay.

Erin Oakley – Marine Mammal Specialist
Erin Oakley – Marine Mammal Specialist

Erin is one of the most experienced members of the Sea World team and has spent over 20 years working with dolphins and seals as a marine mammal specialist. Erin is a passionate conservationist who has attended hundreds of rescue operations in her career as well as contributing towards many marine research and conservation projects.

Jacob Emerson – Marine Animal Specialist
Jacob Emerson – Marine Animal Specialist

Jacob is a passionate advocate for wildlife conservation and has vast experience working in the zoo and aquarium industry. Jacob is an integral member of the Sea World team specialising in the care of Polar bears, seals, seabirds and penguins and has conducted several rescue operations on injured seabirds.

Richelle Reading – Marine Animal Specialist
Richelle Reading – Marine Animal Specialist

Richelle is an experienced wildlife carer with an extensive career working in the zoo and aquarium industry. Richelle specialises in the care of dolphins and king and gentoo penguins at Sea World as well as participating in marine rescue and research operations.
